Bullpen BSBL started years ago in the mind of Matt Capps. Matt started playing baseball in the metro Atlanta area since he was a boy on a tee all the way through the big leagues. He even earned a spot as an All- Star pitcher, a feat not many people have done. Along the way, he formed relationships with like minded people that sought to end the money grab that his home area was becoming known for and teach the basics of baseball. The people he came to call friends all had the same base philosophy, Attitude and Effort are the building blocks of great players and people in general. This crew wanted to get back to “old school” baseball while keeping the technology of current day in view as it adds to a players’ ability. And so, Bullpen BSBL had life breathed into it…
My Story is the story that you read about-small town kid makes it to the Big Leagues and has a career playing a kids game! Like most guys that get to the level that I did, my career ended in a way that I never imagined would, an injury. I was fortunate to play 16 years in professional baseball and would still be doing it if I could, the good lord and my body had a different plan.
I went down a different path when the game was done with me and found myself in a few different business opportunities, feeling a little empty. I dabbled in some coaching here and there, but it wasn’t until IMG called me and offered me an opportunity to coach one of their high school baseball teams that i knew I was supposed to be doing something with kids and baseball.
Like most people, in the sport of baseball, I started at the age of 4. I’ve been blessed to play this game for 33 years and have acquired valuable knowledge from so many other along the way. The game and it’s players continually are adjusting to better the sport and the athlete. My time on the field is coming to an end, but I feel like I have so much more to offer to players who want to be successful and are serious about continuing their careers to the next level.
Having gone through many failures and successes, I know I’m equipped to help young athletes reach their goals on the field. I’ve been giving lessons since the Summer of 2020 and have realized that most kids are lost when it comes to the basics of the game and understanding what type of player they are. This is the area where I’ve helped kids at the most.
